As we leave 2019 behind us and step forward to 2020 (the year for perfect vision) I ponder what my vision looks like. Each new year always poses new possibilities and curiosities, but the arrival of this one makes me focus more on my overall vision, purpose, mission, and destination. I feel in my spirit a flux, a change on the cusp of exploding and yet I am not the slightest bit anxious, nervous or concerned. I do, however, wish I knew what such change might entail. But then again, I tend to thrive under pressure. I suppose like many things in my life, all will be revealed in the eleventh hour.
I recently received an award for Columnist of the Year and was completely taken by surprise and humbled by the accolade. This award has provided me a peace if you will, of the confirmation that I am doing what I am destined to be doing.
Focus on Fabulous’ mission remains the same; to shine light on a dark, busy and negative world. But am I utilizing all platforms and resources available to me? Some other options are podcast, blog, events, speaking engagements and so forth but I question if I am equipped for many of those. Then again, I wonder, does it really matter? I didn’t know anything about photography and have won national awards and have my images used in worldwide promotions. I knew nothing about creating a magazine, yet have now received Columnist of the Year award, so apparently someone somewhere thinks it worthy.
As I embrace 2020 with a new vision for my life, my business, and my overall well-being, I encourage you to take time from your busy schedule and do the same. Jot down your dreams, hopes, and aspirations. Clear your mind of negativity and toxic thoughts. Plan to surround yourself with people that support, encourage and uplift you. Find a tribe or handful of truly devoted friends. The ones that you can call on anytime day or night, whether to tell a joke or cry a river; these few are your pillars. They inspire you and believe in you even when you are filled with doubt. They hold you up and lift you high when you are down. They salute your successes and yet offer insight and wisdom that may be difficult to swallow but that comes from love, adoration and respect.
Set your sights high and your goals beyond what your mind says you’re capable of. I’d like to share a poem that sits on my desk.
As the Optimist Creed says:
Promise yourself…
To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person
you meet.
To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your
optimism come true.
To think only the best, to work only for the best, and to expect
only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the successes of others as you
are about your own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to greater
achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every
living creature you meet a smile.
To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you
have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for
fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
Embrace 2020 with whatever it may hold for you. Look for the opportunities, learn from the lessons and above all, remember a sunset is proof that every day can end beautifully.
stay fabulous, stay you,
“mi”
