Who am I? Have you taken a Personality Quiz and doubted the results? Have you walked in your closet thinking it looked like a hazard zone? Here we are, women in a world that tells us we should be this or should be that. The fashion industry has done the same thing with suggesting different trends all the time that might not fit our personality or look great on our body type.
Style is broken down into four categories, Classic, Boho, Casual and Dramatic/Edgy. When I am helping women discover their style, I find that they have a little of all of it in their closets. How do we make sense of it all and know which trends to work with? How do we transition with style that fits us?
I like to suggest that we all have some or a lot of classic in our dressing personality. Let’s take a peek into your closet and see. What is a color you tend to gravity towards? Do you have several neutral colors that you work with on a regular bases? What are you to-go items? Now lets work with it you have found.
Great you found that you gravity towards red and your neutrals are black and khaki. You have it in professional wear and casual wear with traces of Boho and Edgy. Now to begin, pull a few of these items out of the closet and throw them on the bed. Start with your neutrals on one side of the bed and reds on the other. Now put them into categories of bottoms, tops, dresses, your go-to pieces and laying pieces.
Put one outfit on for work, add some accessories, put on your shoes and snap a picture. Change the accessories and shoes and snap another picture. And a layering piece to either one or both outfits and take a picture. Add one of your favorite go-to pieces. Swap out your bottoms from a pencil skirt or dress pants to jeans to make transitioning to casual wear easy. Want to be a bit Edgy add statement jewelry and shoes or a bomber jacket and again snap a picture. Always remember shoes and accessories makes the outfit.
Together we have just made five or more different outfits or looks working with your style from what you found in your closet. Your pictures will help you decide which style fits your personality the best and your body shape. For easy reference, set up a folder in your phone and move the outfits you like best to it. Getting dress in the morning will be a breeze when looking through your pictures. It will also be a great tool when out shopping to add new items to your closet.
I advise all of us to work with a capsule wardrobe, rather our style is a little classic or a lot. Your closet will not be chaotic, it will be much easier to mix and match items to create more outfits and you will love getting dress. You will find that making changes in your closet and working with classic clothes will be a time-saver and money-saver. These clothes are timeless and will serve you well.
