As I received the submissions from our staff writers, I noticed a common thread throughout. As staff writers, they were aware that the fall issue typically focuses on transition and change, yet much of the content I received this time used the term ‘embrace.’ Embrace Change, embrace new seasons, Embrace your inner Goddess, and so forth.
As we head into our ninth year and produce this, our 33rd issue, we have embraced much through the seasons of magazine publishing. We have embraced obstacles and diversity; topics others may deem taboo, indifferent or forbidden. Of course, we have embraced stories that have happy endings but also others that, though painful, provided a message to ourselves and our readers about the need to embrace life with eyes wide open and with full hearts, to embrace the pain and use it as fuel for our overall journey. To recognize it all and embrace it all. For all of it leads to a full life and a destination of who we are meant to become.
Therefore, in entering the holiday season, I hope you will embrace yourself. Embrace your passion and find your place and purpose in this world. Grab hold of your loved ones, for our time is fleeting, and theirs is unknown. Embrace everything: the fear of Change, the growing pains, the challenges, the excitement. Embrace your body. I turned 62 in July and have been dealing with two heel spurs, bad knees, and oral surgery. I felt, “I turned 62, and now I’m falling apart.” But a friend of mine reminded mi that I am ‘under construction. I’m getting an upgrade.’
We cannot become who we were meant to be, who we want to be, by remaining who we are. If you’re like mi, you continually do for others & put yourself last. We need to stop! Not stop doing for others but stop putting ourselves last. I encourage you to embrace a new mindset and attitude toward self-care and embrace the knowledge that you’re no good if you’re not good!
As you start your weeks, make your lists, schedule appointments, prepare for whatever the holiday season holds for you, and make plans to embrace every drop in your cup, I hope you will also embrace the uncertainties, embrace your weirdness and imperfections, and embrace failure.
For as you embrace and soak up every minute of the story and journey, you will notice that it is a beautiful part of you and your fabulous life.
stay fabulous,
stay you,
“mi”
