As I drive around my town, running from business meeting and networking event to errand after errand, I notice colors ever so gently peeking through the scenery as the Japanese magnolias and Bartlett Pear trees proudly begin to bear their blossoms. Day after day an unforced smile unknowingly crosses my face as I rejoice in watching the growth become thicker and the colors beam brighter. Trees stand tall reaching for the sunshine as they replace the dead gray branches with bright green leaves. The weather is a little warmer, but the crisp breeze and fluffy clouds painted on the pale blue sky make for the perfect day to open the sunroof and bask in the day. I love this time of year. In fact, I often plan my business meetings at places that offer outdoor cafes and coffee shops simply so I can embrace spring and all her loveliness.
Although spring is typically a time in our calendar seasons where the old dead winter sheds its coat and brings forth new life, I apply the same approach in my personal life, my businesses and my home. Spiritually, physically and mentally I use this time of year to replace the grit, grime, and gunk in my life and start fresh. For example, in my personal life, I have been known to reach out and reconnect with relationships that may have fallen dormant. I schedule time for meditation and self-care, and reach out for new personal development opportunities. Professionally, I give a spring-cleaning sweep over my business. I examine where I’ve been, and seek new ways for growth through education, creative brainstorming and so forth. In my home, closets and drawers are painstakingly downsized providing gently used items new homes and owners, and allowing me clutter-free spaces. The garage is reorganized, carpets cleaned, baseboards wiped down and so forth. It is a refreshing time of year for me as my inside world and my outside world collide in harmony.
I encourage you, as you begin your spring season, whatever that holds for you, to find opportunities that help simplify, beautify and clean your life and surroundings. And in that process, I urge you to take a moment and breath in spring and all her loveliness. After all, spring is a lovely reminder of how beautiful growth and change can be. Take time to notice the dabs of nature playing hide and seek as you travel on your daily commute, take a walk in the crisp morning air, paint the canvas of your day with the colors in your world and share that unforced smile that unknowingly crosses your face.
stay fabulous, stay you,
