This anniversary issue of Focus on Fabulous (congrats!) is on change, and while we can all certainly come up with a definition for “change,” the more impactful understanding of the word comes from the direct experience of what change has meant in our own lives.

Sometimes change is exciting. sometimes heart-wrenching. Sometimes change comes when we go after it—when we realize we’ve reached the end of a road and are ready for what comes next. In that case, we prepare and encourage ourselves with things like vision boards. We are open and invite change. Then it happens in the most pleasant way. While we must adjust accommodate it, these are all welcomed.

When change comes when we aren’t expecting it, it doesn’t feel very good. It happens because there is some part of our lives where we are stuck. For our growth, we need to do something different, but we either don’t know how or we just don’t want to. Then the Universe steps in and presents us with the circumstances where it must happen.

But I have a theory about change. I don’t think it comes randomly. In my view, it comes when we need it, not necessarily when we want it. It’s not arbitrary. It comes because we are stuck in some way. Life is flowing and dynamic, and when we insist on keeping things the way they are, we are resisting what is natural. That’s when change comes unbidden and surprising.

Another way change comes is when we go after it. When we realize we’ve reached the end of a road and we are ready for what comes next. In that case, we might create a vision board or do affirmations about what we want. We are open and invi te it in. Then it happens in the most pleasant way. However, we still must adjust accommodate it.

Back to the first case where change comes when we aren’t expecting it and it doesn’t feel very good. It happens because there is some part of our life where we are stuck and for our growth we need to do something different, but we either don’t know how or we just don’t want to. Then the Universe steps in and presents us with the circumstances where it must happen.

I’m thinking of a time when I needed to make a change. I felt I had to put up with something not very pleasant to free myself up to work on a project. I knew the situation wasn’t right, and it didn’t feel good. I decided the project was more important, but—as you may have guessed—the situation unraveled, and I was forced to make the change. At first, it wasn’t an easy transition. It felt scary, and I wasn’t sure how it would turn out. But something in me trusted, and it turned out to be wonderful and helped with my project far more than if I had stayed in that situation.

If there are places in your life you need to alter or modify or make different (referring back to our definitions) then know it will turn out to be better than before, no matter how it appears at first. This is a loving Universe. It’s on your side, regardless of what you are experiencing at the moment. Stay in trust and do what you need to do the best way you can, and it will turn out to be a good thing. Sometimes the worst times turn out to be just the thing we needed, and then they become the best times.
