Out with the old and in with the new. What’s the first thing you think of? The bedspread that doesn’t fit the season? I went the “immaterial” direction. The following will apply to all of you, even if you are young and single without kids!

My mantra has been, “What do I do now?” I’m still waiting for “something.” Our son is the youngest and became a US Marine this year—his first time away by himself and still so young! We’re in a bigger home with extra time, but we lack the craziness, yelling and laughter. We miss “little voices” so what do I do now?

My son’s wife helped coordinate a surprise visit to see them. We spent lots of time just being together in a perfect Airbnb house in Twentynine Palms, California. We played cards, cooked good food and hiked Joshua Tree National Park. I saw my son as a man, and I realized we did a lot right! Then the USMC taught him more. My son was now prepared to embark on his adult journey.

Mornings were quiet. I discovered a Deepak Chopra book. Fitting, as I signed up to volunteer during his September appearance. During this pivotal visit and after reading this book, I made the decision to “cross over.”

The following is a modified excerpt from an article by The Editors at Chopra.com on how to apply The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success:

The Law of Pure Potentiality: Take time to be silent, to just BE. Meditate twice a day. Silently witness the intelligence within every living thing.

Practice non-judgment.

The Law of Giving: Bring whoever you encounter a gift: a compliment or flower. Gratefully receive gifts. Keep wealth circulating by giving and receiving care, affection, appreciation and love.

The Law of Karma: Every action generates a force of energy that returns to us in like kind. Choose actions that bring happiness and success to others to ensure its return to you.

The Law of Least Effort: Accept people, situations and events as they occur. Take responsibility for your situation and for all events seen as problems. Relinquish the need to defend your point of view.

The Law of Intention and Desire: Inherent in every intention and desire is the mechanics for its fulfillment. Make a list of desires. Trust that when things don’t seem to go your way, there is a reason.

The Law of Detachment: Allow yourself and others the freedom to be who they are. Do not force solutions—allow solutions to spontaneously emerge. Uncertainty is essential and your path to freedom.

The Law of Dharma: Seek your higher Self. Discover your unique talents. Ask yourself how you are best suited to serve humanity. Using your unique talents and serving others brings unlimited bliss and abundance.

DON’T think OUT with the old! File it away; REFER to it as you welcome 2018! By finding your inner peace and stillness, shield yourself from external chaos. Here’s to “crossing over”!
