Did you know that the amygdala in your brain resists change? It’s true! Our brains are hardwired to avoid change and prefer to operate on autopilot whenever possible. This is because the conscious brain has to work hard when encountering new, non-repetitive patterns, which can be exhausting.

However, the world around us is constantly changing. The economy, climate, people’s emotions, technology, kitchenware, furniture, and appliances are all in a state of flux. We learn new skills, develop new ideas, and adapt to changes in our jobs and businesses despite the amygdala’s resistance.

Let’s take a moment to reflect on how conscious change feels:

  • Have you ever intentionally taken a different route by foot, bike, or car? This is said to be good for our brain as it exercises it. How does it feel to you?
  • Have you ever tried to change your daily routine? How long did it take for that change to feel “normal”?
  • What about when the lights go out during a storm? Do you still flip the switch out of habit?
  • How about starting a new job at a new desk?

These examples illustrate how we encounter and adapt to change in our daily lives.

According to John Assaraf, it takes anywhere from 66 days to a year to develop a new habit. While some suggest it takes 21 or 30 days, John, an expert on brain function, explains that we might become proficient at something in that time frame, but it still requires conscious effort until it becomes routine and imprinted on our subconscious.

Currently, I’m reading Wise Confidence: Overcome Self-Doubt and Build Lasting Self-Esteem by Giovanni Dienstmann.

I find his work aligns with many of my practices. He guides readers through a process to change their identity, emphasizing that our identity, shaped by our environment from childhood, is not necessarily one we chose. Some people realize who they are meant to be but struggle to get there. This book offers valuable insights.

I strongly believe in transitioning beliefs and emotions through various subliminal techniques to make change easier and less foreign. This approach is part of the work I do to help women improve their health. By aligning our subconscious with our conscious desires, we can make lasting changes in behavior and emotional responses. What are you thinking of changing? What works for you? I’d love to hear! Send me an email: sho@shorichek.com or message me on social media.
