Meet Roginia Watson

If we could say one sentence about the person Roginia Watson is, it would be: “Roginia is an opportunity waiting to happen!” About five and a half years ago, Roginia was unemployed, after years of dedicated employment with BellSouth. She found herself financially unstable, bored and pregnant with her third child. With another highrisk pregnancy, she was confused about her next steps. Knowing that she had to do something to change her situation, Roginia began searching businesses for stay-at-home moms.

Her research was fruitful, as she found that the number one low-investment business for a stay-at-home mom was in event services—particularly kids entertainment, such as clowning, face painting and the art form. But what she fell head over heels for was balloon decor.

With that Roginia bought her first package of balloons, a standard hand pump and challenged herself by creating her first balloon piece: a column.Appeased with her final product, she took to Facebook and shared it in her newsfeed. This began what you now know as Carolina Balloon Lady.

Roginia began a self-taught mission of studying the art form with many trial-and-error small opportunities in her community. Diligent in perfecting her craft, she invested countless hours of researching and implementing what worked best for her. “This was never supposed to be a business,” she says. “I just loved what I could create.”

Still a single mother, she begins her day often at 3:00 or 4:00 a.m., as she needs some quiet, focus time before she gets her son off to school—most mornings by 7:00 a.m. However, Roginia puts herself in business mode and officially begins her workday at 8:00 a.m. A typical day consists of, but is not limited to, answering emails, sales, marketing, making and returning phone calls,  scheduling appointments, giving quotes and making deliveries.

The Carolina Balloon Lady offers private and corporate services but is not limited to personal deliveries of balloon bouquets, arrangements and even kids entertainment. Yes! She can make your kids a balloon dog. She has even been featured in events, such as the Greater Charleston Restaurant Association’s Oyster Festival.

Roginia offers any array of services that includes balloon artistry, and she has even taken an opportunity to branch out to parts of North Carolina. She prides herself on enhancing the atmosphere of any event or occasion within any budget. In fact, Roginia was once visiting a local Chuck E. Cheese’s with her son when she encountered an overwhelmed mother preparing her child’s birthday party. The Balloon Lady graciously offered assistance as she introduced herself. She complemented the event with a few stock balloons she had packed away from another event in her car. Roginia saw an opportunity and was prepared at a moment’s notice to save the day. The child’s mother went from overwhelmed to overjoyed in a matter of minutes, and her child’s party was a great success.

Roginia’s talent is endless and her tenacity fearless. Simply ask if she can accomplish your vision, and she will more than likely blow away your expectations.

Roginia says the most unique and challenging balloon piece she was hired to create so far was, “A life-size golfer, complete with golf bag, clubs and golf cart.” Although we at Focus on Fabulous Magazine are particularly fond of the exotic “pole dancer” she made, she says it was simply a challenge. “People ask me to do something and I just do it!” she says.

Roginia is so much more than just balloon décor. The Carolina Balloon Lady also has its very own Gorilla Oh! Gram service. Yes! You can have a delightful black or pink gorilla surprise anyone and anywhere (tutu or bow tie optional). This balloon bouquet and banana-bringing service is available for everyone from kids to the elderly.

Focus on Fabulous Magazine has seen the crowd go “ape wild” with her gorilla’s dancing moves and enthusiastic behavior. As you can see, Rogina is mutli-talented, a visionary and is truly an opportunity waiting to happen. We at Focus on Fabulous Magazine are convinced there is nothing The Carolina Balloon Lady cannot create and no event that will not be made greater by the presence of her talents.
