Are you a girl on the go? Me too! Need to simplify your life? Who doesn’t? Do you leave piles of clothes on the floor when getting ready to go to work or on a date night? Do you have a packed out closet but stand at it saying, “I have nothing to wear”? Or nothing looks good? Does your closet need a makeover? Wish you could update your look?
If you are like Dawn and answered yes to any of these questions you are not alone. To tell you the truth, I have had a packed-out closet several times in my life.
How, you say? This is your specialty. Excuses go like this: Life gets busy, weight loss/gain, it is one my favorites, it might come back in style. When I start not liking things in the closet then it’s time for a purge. For the most part I stick to the basics for my closet, but in April I took a long look at my closet and realized I had gotten away from my 1.2.3. Recipe or KISS theory. “Keep it super simple.” I had several buckets of cute shoes. I am even proud to say that I had a few pairs from my college days, and yes they still fit. Please do not be jealous. But to be honest I had several that were starting to show their wear and tear, are dated or are just not cute to me anymore.
How did I get in the mode to keep them if they were not in my top favorites for shoes? Either they did not work with my favorite outfits or over time my taste in shoes has changed with the trends. Most women wear 20% of their clothes 80% of the time. So why are we not just working with the 20% and simplifying our lives? Women need to learn the 1.2.3 Recipe for our clothes and accessories and apply it. You can make more than 30 outfits with three natural shirts, one dress, two pants, two laying pieces and accessories. Earrings are the best accessory for any outfit because they accentuate your face. I even keep a pair in my car for any emergency runs I might make. Simple layered necklaces to statement necklaces will complete your look from work to date night. Multiple necklaces of size, texture, cut and color can give your wardrobe multiple looks that only takes three to five seconds to put on.
“Arm parties” are the “hot tamales” for bringing attention to the smallest part of our body. Most women cannot talk without using their hands to express themselves, so why not have eye-catching bracelets on? Adding a few on-trend items like scarves, dusters, kimonos and shoes will extend your look from the nine items from our closet. Remember when working with your key pieces that they need to be naturals so other pieces will mix and match well.
In April when I gave myself a private closet consult, I went through all of it. I moved seasonal items to another closet with my winter items. Items I have not worn in the past year I was able to bless someone else by giving to worthy causes. When I was done it was very inspiring! And once again my husband was thrilled with the outcome.
I have gone back to working with my favorites, adding a few style pieces of clothing and changing my looks by my complementary accessories. I have peace of mind when I walk to my closet and feel totally confident in my attire that only took about 90 seconds to pull off. Hubby is happy because he is not waiting on me while tapping his watch. Life is short so live it in style.
