Change, Transition, and Mindfulness
I’ve been making some changes lately, and I am taking a “mindful” approach.
Mindfulness is a popular topic right now. I started to use it to help with my weight loss (you can follow that journey at mindfulmomsjourney.com), but I am finding it helpful in other areas, too. Work and relationships are two prime examples.
A simple synonym for mindfulness is “awareness.” Being aware of your actions, your thoughts, and your feelings. Mindful eating helps you eat less and eat healthier. Mindful meditation helps you become more aware of your surroundings and focus inward, reducing stress.
If I am mindful of my eating, I will be aware of what I am eating (and also plan ahead for meals). It means that I won’t mindlessly eat a bag of chips without even realizing it.
If I am mindful of my stress level, I can sense when it is rising and take a moment to center myself, take a step back, breathe, and help myself relax.
The first step with change is being aware of your current situation. Take a moment to discover (and admit) where you are, decide where you want to head, and use mindfulness
