I recently attended a sales workshop, and I was surprised by one thing the presenter told me.
He said that when he used to sell software that was designed to help sports teams improve their
performance, the top coaches were always the ones to call him back immediately.
“Tell me what you’ve got!” they’d say.
The teams that had plenty of room to improve would never call him back.
He’d have to call them. Many times. But the ones who were already at the top of their game would always
be striving to improve every little bit they could. Even if it was just a fraction of a percent better,
they’d reach for it.
What does this mean for you?
First, it means to always try to improve yourself. Never stop learning.
Never stop trying to change one thing that might make you a better person, better mother,
better spouse, better friend, or better in business.
Seek out ways to learn new things. Take classes. Read books. Attend workshops.
Second, never look at someone else and think that they are perfect.
Never believe for one moment that someone in the top of their field is resting on their laurels.
Understand that they are continually working towards improving.
And if you seek to be like that person on a personal or professional level
look at what they are doing and do the same.
What books are they reading? What workshops are they attending? What habits do they keep?
That is your starting point.
And finally, it means that you are a work in progress. Don’t judge yourself too harshly. Don’t compare yourself to others and think you’ll never be on the same level.
You can do anything. Achieve anything. Be anything.
Time + Desire + Effort = the destiny you deserve.
