All 2023 you have been saying you were going to lose 10lbs. But somehow you made it to the end of the year, and not only have you not lost the 10lbs, but you gained 10lbs. Now you’re standing in front of the mirror looking at yourself in disbelief and trying to figure out how you got here. So, now your new, new year resolution is to lose 20lbs. But if that didn’t work out the last time, then why would this time be any different?

You don’t need a new goal; you need a new mindset. Your mindset determines what behaviors you perform. Your behaviors determine your habits, and your habits determine your results. Simple, right? Well, the problem with simplicity is that somehow and someway we make things harder than it has to be. We overthink, we are impatient, we give up easily, we are easily distracted, and so on and so on.

So, what if you replaced some of those not-so-great habits with some of the greatest habits known to mankind. Like Consistency, patience, practice, focus, research, and so on and so on. Not only will you lose that extra weight that you’ve been trying to lose for the last year, but you will keep it off and never have to worry about it again.

I know, I know you may be thinking it’s just not that simple. But it really is.

Hear me out. If you consistently workout 3-4 times a week, you keep your workouts simple, you focus on your diet, you research what works and what doesn’t, and you are patient with getting results. Then voila you’ve magically met your goal. And created new habits along the way. If you figured out what you didn’t do enough of and do more of those things, then meeting your goal becomes easy.

Changing your mindset does take time and can present itself as a challenge if you are stuck in your ways. But, knowing that the only thing keeping you from your goals is you. Should be enough to help you get out or your own way. And if it still isn’t that simple.

Here are a few extra tips that will help you create great habits to meet any goal.

  1. Find an accountability partner- someone who will check in with you as often as needed, someone you will be honest with, or someone to do it with you.
  2. Do what works now and be flexible to change- don’t try to force yourself to make drastic changes quickly. Allow for incremental changes over time.
  3. Set a reward system- don’t just work hard and forget to acknowledge the great work you are doing.
  4. Have Fun- Find ways to make the process enjoyable. You’re less likely to quit if you are doing something you enjoy.
