Keeping our promises to ourselves is probably one of the hardest undertakings ever. We tend to keep our promises to others because we want to take care of others and to make them happy. But what about yourself? When was the last time you made a promise to yourself and kept it? It’s time to start taking care of you and hold you accountable for the promises you make yourself! Here are 3 simple tips to live the summer of 2024 with you in mind!

  1. Schedule time for you — set a reminder on your phone, schedule time for exercise, meditation, or just relax-ing! Need help — there’s an app for selfcare!
  2. Make it a habit — it takes between 21 and 66 days to create a habit for yourself — yes that long! Take time for your promise every day for at least 22 days and see how great you feel!
  3. Put it in writing — your brain recognizes your own writing, so when you write your intentions your brain bolsters your obligation to make things happen!

Throughout the year, we feel obligated to take care of cooking, shopping, and making sure others wishes are ful-filled. This is an amazing way to give back to others, and you should do it; however, forgetting about your own needs can be detrimental to your health and happiness. This can lead to a negative, self-destructing road no one deserves to walk down, and you can prevent this by respecting your own promises to yourself…. set those boundaries! Think about how accomplished you feel after a good workout? Not only does your body feel great, but your mind is energized too! Promise kept. Think about how relaxed you feel after a walk on the beach, coffee with a friend, or treating yourself because you can! Do this repeatedly, and visualize the satisfaction over a few weeks or months — a healthier, stronger, empowered you!

You are a remarkable creature, and when you invest in yourself, you become even more remarkable in the ability to give even more to others! Make sure exercise, eating well, getting rest, and spending time doing things you love is on your to-do list! Besides putting all other promises first, make a promise to yourself and keep it! Set yourself up for success
