Last month I told you my purpose with this column is to guide you on your journey toward finding your light. I’m ready and I hope you are too. Let’s get started.
The first step on your journey toward finding your light is: Be grateful. “Are you kidding me?” I can hear some of you say. “What does that have to do with anything? My whole world is a mess and you want me to be grateful?” Yes, even if your life is not what you want it to be, gratitude must be your starting point.
Why? Everything in our world has a frequency. Animate and inanimate objects all have a frequency. Gratitude is a powerful frequency. Sometimes you have to dig deeper to be grateful because you are not accustomed to seeing it, but there is good everywhere. When you can see the good and be grateful for what you have, you can manifest hope. When you have hope, you can believe. When you believe, the world will open up completely to what you want to do. So, every day you should set aside time to be grateful. I have a gratitude journal. Each day for five minutes, I write in my gratitude journal. It works for me, and it will work for you too.
Let’s discuss the second step on your journey toward finding your light: Stop the negative self- talk. This is a tough one because many of us heard so much negativity throughout our lives. Reprogramming is very challenging.
How do we start? First, recognize that it’s happening. Every time you hear yourself thinking a negative self-thought, stop and acknowledge that it happened. Look at what’s going on around you when you have these thoughts. I recall the last time I was anxious when dealing with a math project. My mind went back in time when I was doing my fourth-grade homework. I was confused with the math problem I was working. My father helped me with the problem and then said to me, “You are terrible at math!” The reality is that I was terrible at understanding that particular math problem at that time. But for years I believed I was bad at math.
You can see how old programming can affect how we see ourselves. Every time you “hear” your negative self-talk, stop and think long and carefully about why you feel that way about yourself. Forgive yourself for thinking that way and then be grateful that you corrected the old programming.
These two steps are very important and must be conquered before we can move on. Next month, we’ll discuss the secret to success in our Journey Toward Finding Your Light.
