it starts like every yesterday.
eyes barely open, thoughts start to race.
another stretch of same old steps,
and mile-long lists to chase.
the morning light begins to grow,
it brushes softly on my face.
i blink beneath its tender glow,
wrapped warm in time and space.
thankful to be awake, i stretch,
and plant my feet upon the floor.
i make my way to wash and dress,
grab my things, then out the door.
i may get a bite and greet some friends
as morning hurries on its way,
but i try not to forget to pause—
to breathe…and stop to pray.
to be grateful for the greenlights
when i am running late.
to show kindness to the people
i might meet along the way.
by day’s end, i’m worn and weary,
my smile and patience have drawn thin.
yet i’m still thankful for this day—
for a chance to start – again.
i rejoice in the sunset’s reminder
of the beauty that ends each day.
i sink beneath my waiting covers
and lay a grateful head to pray.
i’m so thankful that this—
was not just ‘another’ day.
it started with open eyes of gratitude,
and was filled with blessings, love, and grace.
