As summer closes out, the seasons are changing, school is starting, and the year end is quickly approaching, transitions abound! What is shifting in your life right now? Are your littles hitting new milestones? Building a business that is moving to a new level? Is your high school graduate starting college?

In the last few weeks, transitions have multiplied in our home. Mountaintop moments have included high school and college graduations, packing to move across country, new driver, milestone 18th birthday, and revisiting old friendships.

And amid all these celebrations, there have been unexpected valley transitions. Needing a Medical Power of Attorney for my 18-year-old was never expected. My little miracle writing her first will. Evaluating test results for a diagnosis that came out of the blue and what that looks like in real life, for the rest of her life.

Transitions are designed to make a change or shift from one state, subject, place, etc. to another.

Where do we transition too though? In the celebrations, we want to continue the mountaintop experience, to feel the joy as long as possible. And yet, there are valleys in between those mountain tops, some expected, mostly unexpected.

The valleys aren’t always easy as a Medical Mom Warrior. How do we realign to start working our way out of the valley?

We find joy in the moments, mountaintop or valley.

Out of the blue my daughter received a birthday card filled with stickers, confetti and joy-filled pictures drawn inside, from someone we didn’t know. My daughter quickly googled this person’s name to find out who sent this little mountaintop in an envelope. It’s a 1st grader, Mia Taylor of New York, who was diagnosed with a rare disease. A precious little one who wanted to brighten people’s birthdays as part of her valley to mountaintop shift.

That one card overshadowed all the others my daughter received.

It was not only a joy bringer but an inspiration to my own medical warrior to look beyond herself, her own transitions, and see how to offer mountaintops amid the valleys for others.

In this moment, right now, how can you offer a mountaintop moment to someone around you?
