If you know mi or have been subscribing to this publication and reading my letters, you know that spring is my favorite season. Its beauty is something that all my senses embrace.

Though I may travel the same roads and follow the same general daily driving routine there is something about spring, about watching mother nature adorn her beautiful colors in the spring that makes the normal trip almost magical. It’s not simply the flowers blooming on the trees and the bushes, although that is glorious, but I tend to notice things I overlooked previously on my journeys.

The sunroof in my car is open much more often. The gentle breezes are crisp, yet the sun is warm on my skin. I can smell the air as the wind carries fragrances from the blossoms it surrounds. The scent and sounds of fresh afternoon rainstorms bring my soul peace and delight.

It is a time when our senses can truly come alive and embrace the beauty and renewal that spring brings.

It is, for mi a time of renewal in many ways. The old dead of winter is coming to life, getting out of hibernation so to speak. It awakes the yawn in my life and turns my sluggish lifestyle of comfort food, and sweatpants motivating mi, even with two bad knees, to go outdoors and experience nature, listen to the sounds of birds chirping, and enjoy my surroundings waking up and coming alive.

Physically spring motivates mi to repot my plants and fix up my patio, take a stroll or sit and write or paint in my backyard. It encourages mi to clean the clutter from my mind and rid myself of things that gunk up my thought process, my work, and my mindset, and to rid myself of habits I may have acquired that I shouldn’t. Spring inspires mi to purge my physical house too, cleaning closets and rearranging cabinets, opening windows to allow the fresh air to enter.

As you begin your spring, whether you have a physical, emotional, or spiritual journey you take, I hope you remember these little tidbits:

Spring reminds us:

that even beautiful things push through the dirt.

it’s time to wake up and shine. You’ve been through enough darkness.

to be warm as the sun and as comforting as an afternoon thunderstorm.

that not everything blooms at the same time

life will get warmer. Despite the weather, live like it’s spring.

that growth can be uncomfortable, confining, and messy. But worth it.

to let your soul bloom, flourish

that no matter how chaotic it is, wildflowers will still bloom out of nowhere

to take your time, step by step.. even with bare feet or a shoe full of mud

stay fabulous, stay you,

“mi”
