Hi, my name is Susan Hall. I believe that you can do anything you want in this life; you just have to make a choice and go for it! I have always been interested in what has been considered a man’s domain when it comes to work. I love a challenge!
At a young age I grew up spending time with my father in his auto shop. I gravitated towards the mechanics and their daily work. I would sit in the shop all day watching and learning. To me, that was much more fun than running around playing with the other children.
As I grew older, I went to college to work on my degree in farm management. Within that time, I married and became a full-time stay at home mom; homeschooling my 6 amazing children. After many years, my marriage abruptly ended. I found myself with no outside job experience. I was starting from square one!
I knew I had to act quickly to provide for myself and have a stable home for my children. I started my search and landed a job at Lowe’s Home Improvement. While working at Lowe’s I learned how to drive and operate the forklift. On my days off, I began to teach myself custom wood work, so I could make rustic furniture to sell. Little by little, I began working on my own car engine, and have become quite the expert!
I have since left Lowe’s and am now working for Rex Lumber Mill in Graceville, Florida. I am the only woman working with 120 male co-workers. I spend my day operating heavy machinery. Rex Lumber is sending me to college in the Spring to become an equipment mechanic!
My message to anyone is; do not let anyone tell you what you can or cannot do. Make a plan, stick to it, and work hard. You can go anywhere in life, just make that choice! Don’t find the excuses why your life is a failure. Grab the opportunities that God gives you to become fabulous, bringing the people around you with you.
