You are Pretty

This morning when you looked in the mirror what do you see? Ever wonder how we can require so much beauty sleep and wake up looking like a troll? Truth is, we need to stop that way of thinking. It is that mindset that makes it difficult for us to start the day motivated and ready to tackle the world.

See, we must come to a point where we realize that we are more than a pretty face, a number on the scale or even what others perceive us to be. We are unique and special individuals created to do amazing things and leave incredible impressions on those we encounter.

So, whereas, I say you are more than a pretty face I mean you are MORE than a pretty face. You are pretty strong, pretty smart, pretty bold, pretty daring, pretty amazing and so forth. I have a sticky note on my bathroom mirror that says, “I am pretty _________________.”

Every morning as I look at that woman with messed up hair, droopy eyes and a pasty skin tone I fill in that blank with who I WILL become that day.

Then I begin the transformation process. By filling in that blank I am reminded of who I am. Suddenly the game changes and the motivation gets underway.

Now, I typically go from bed to out the door in fifteen minutes or less. I don’t wear a lot of makeup (a bit of eyeliner and lipstick for an average day) but I must say I not only look presentable, but my teeth are brushed, hair is fixed, and most days I leave the house feeling that I can take on the world.

As I exit the front door into the unknown I do not look back. Maybe that is why the rearview mirror in our cars are small and windshields are large. So, we have a grand view of what lies around us and in front of us but not so much attention on what is behind us. Once exited, I am ready to attack my day and hit the road full force. In fact, I make it a habit to only look back when I want to see how far I’ve come. I do not concern myself with what everyone else is doing and achieving. My life is about breaking my own limitations and goals, growing myself and living my best life today. I am not in competition with anyone. I do not set my course to outdo anyone. And I have stopped waiting for the light at the end of the tunnel and decided to go light it myself.

Don’t get me wrong. I am humble enough to know I am far from perfect but as I have said many times, you can be a work in progress and still be a masterpiece. Truth is, we are all works of art but on different levels of our completion. Therefore, every morning I strive to put my feet on the floor and be confident enough to know that I can do anything I set my mind to do.

So, girl, it’s time to focus on the sparkle. The sparkle that shines within you. You really are pretty (smart, bold, strong, fierce, etc.) and the next time you’re searching for the one thing that can change your life, take a look in the mirror.
