“Color is a power, which directly influences the soul,” -Wassily Kandinsky
I’m in love with colors and use different color schemes when I’m staging for RG Instyle Staging & Design. Allowing the colors to blend with different home decor pieces is the most fun part of what I do. When I enter a room and visually perceive the potential of it while working alongside a homeowner, I’m able to explore their lifestyle, inspiration and desires. I’m able to capture their soul.
Colors, art décor, accessories and furniture styles start popping into my head and I can visualize the final product in a home when completing a walk through for staging or redesigning projects. How do I decide which colors to use? It’s simple, by not being afraid to actually use color. How do I get inspired? Depending on the season, nature’s colors are an inspiration. Knowing what current trending colors are is always helpful, too.
During consultations, some of my clients and friends express how terrified they are of having to choose a color scheme. I tell them, “it’s really not hard at all.” Just think about it for a second. Everywhere you look, there’s color surrounding you. Use that as an inspiration when choosing a color scheme. How comfortable you feel about certain colors when choosing them will be a deciding factor, too. For inspiration, try choosing a painting, a specific color you’ve always felt drawn to or a color that gives you a warm, cozy feeling inside your soul.
Whatever color you choose, the important thing is to work on energizing it with all of your accessories and décor. Give it character and your own style when finalizing everything. The key is to have fun creating the mood and style you’ve always wanted in your home or space. When I’m redesigning an occupied home, I let the client know that we really don’t need to go overboard and paint an entire room unless they want to do so. The main idea is using small bursts of color with your accessories to share a lasting impression and to empower your soul.
