Time to bring in the doctor.
It was never my intent to exclude my doctor from my health journey. I just knew that my mindset required focus in order to hold a dialogue that was beneficial to my health. I am not one to jump on the pharmaceutical train just because a doctor says so. Years ago, my doctor annotated my records with this statement “don’t bother she won’t take it”. I am not against medications they are just not my first choice.
I always look for natural ways to overcome my health issues. When it comes to what goes in my body, proper foods are my first choice, vitamins were second but I really didn’t like the idea of supplements.
At my next annual checkup, I went armed with my health DNA report and the last two annual lab results. She noticed the differences in the two lab results and asked what I changed to get these results. The most significant change was my vitamin D number. It was in the healthy range for the first time in the eight years since she was my doctor.
Yes, I took my vitamin D tablets all those years, but the lab report number never landed in the healthy range. I showed her my health DNA report which indicated that my VDR gene (Vitamin D receptor) was broken. The VDR gene plays a key role in how effectively the body utilizes vitamin D. Basically, my body would not absorb the vitamin D, so it did not matter how many tablets I took. Nor how many hours I spent outdoors to receive it naturally.
I heard about DNA repairing supplements. It was one of those type of supplements that boosted my vitamin D absorption. What else could supplements do for my health?
I have the DNA report, so I know what is broken due to my genetics. Yup, the lady who steered clear of supplements was now researching them. But with a different mindset. In the past it seemed every supplement that I encountered contained the statement ‘meal replacement’. I wasn’t looking to replace my meals. I wanted to supplement my nutritional intake not get rid of food.
Food today doesn’t have the same nutritional value that it did in my grandmother’s day. I knew based on that information I would need to eat more to get what my body needs. Eating more was not the answer for me so finding a true nutritional supplement (nutraceutical) was a win!
With my newly refreshed love of cooking and DNA repairing supplements, I am on my way to doing more on my terms.
Mindset and lifestyle, I am finally living the difference.
