I have found a visualization technique, taught by Dane Spotts, called visioneering, that really seems to work for me, so I would like to share it with you.

Step 1 – Get comfortable. You can put on meditation music or just sit in silence. If you have written out some goals and dreams (which you should! but that’s for another article), choose one that you want to concentrate on today.

Step 2 – Close your eyes and take 5 to 6 long, deep breaths. Really concentrate on your breathing. Make sure you feel the air as it comes into your nose, down your throat and into your lungs and diaphragm. And then be aware of the air and the sensations in your body as you exhale.

Step 3 – Roll your eyes up so as if you are trying to see the center of your forehead. Think back to a specific event in your past when you were really happy or proud. It could be anything – the time you had a standing ovation after the school play, the time you and your cousins had a snowball fight, your first dance as husband and wife – whatever it is, remember it in as much detail as possible. Where were you, who were you with, what were you wearing, what did you smell. Spend a moment reliving that incredible moment. Let yourself smile. Laugh out loud. Really feel it.

Step 4 – While keeping that smile on your face, bring to mind the goal or dream you want to create in your life. Infuse it with as much detail as you can. Where are you going to be when you achieve this dream? What are you going to feel? Are you going to shout for joy, do a fist pump, or dance around your living room? Are you going to call your mom or your best friend? Really get into the feeling of success. See and feel it happening. The first time you do it, the image may be fuzzy, you may not have much detail. But the more you do this exercise, the more focused and detailed it will become. Try to hold that image in your mind for about 20 to 30 seconds. There is a theory out there that 17 seconds of a single thought is a magic number for making the vision as reality. I don’t know if it is, but it doesn’t hurt to try.

Step 5 – And finally, take 2 to 3 deep breaths and open your eyes. Immediately when you open your eyes, say out-loud “I give myself permission to have _________ (whatever your goal is). So be it. It is done.” This releases the image into the universe and puts it into God’s hands. You don’t have to worry or stress about it anymore. You now put your faith that God will make it happen for you. You do not need to think about that goal again until the next time you do a this visualization exercise.

Do a visualization exercise like this every day. If only takes maybe 5 to 10 minutes a day at most. You can choose to concentrate on one specific goal, or you can mix it up. But do not mix different goals into the same visualization. You need to be specific and focused and follow these five steps with each session. Now, you can do several sessions back to back, but make sure you release one and then go back to Step 1 to start the visualization of your next goal.
