Create Your Vision Board

A vision board is a powerful visualization tool that you can use as inspiration for your journey toward your ideal life. Some people refer to it as a “dream board” or an “inspiration board.” No matter what you call it, it’s basically a collage of pictures, words and quotes that serve to remind you of your passion and purpose and where you want to go.

Step 1:
Relax. Close your eyes and take a couple deep breaths. Take a moment to reflect on your big goals and dreams. What do you want your ideal life to look like? Think of all of the areas of your life: your business, your health, your finances, your relationships, your emotions, your spiritual life. Complete this statement:
When my life is ideal, I will (have or be) ___________________________ .
Write out as many or as few “ideal life” statements as you want. Some people like to create a Vision Board for a specific area of their life, others like to have a Vision Board that represents their entire life. There is no “right” Vision Board. It’s up to you.

Step 2:
Select a handful of magazines and begin to browse. (If you don’t have magazines around, go online and search for photos — print out the ones that touch your heart). Tear or cut out images and phrases that represent the life you want to live or that resonate deeply with you. For example, if you want to become a speaker, you might clip photos of people standing on stage or of an audience applauding. If you want to find a great romantic partner, you might snip pictures of happy couples smiling at each other or just candles and roses. Whatever speaks to you. You can be literal or symbolic. This is YOUR board. Choose your pictures as quickly as possible. Go with your gut. Tearing the pages out of the magazine seems to give the activity more emotion and excitement. Select MORE than you think you need.

Step 3:
Arrange your images and phrases on your board and begin to edit. Though there is no “right way” to arrange your images, it is suggested that you find a single image for the center, then arrange the rest of the images in an Infinity (figure 8) pattern.
It is also suggested that you create a base of nature pictures and build your vision on top of those. Make sure that your images are all either coming toward you off the board or are placed so that they are facing the center. Do not have images (like a car) that look like they are moving away from the center image. Close-cut some of your images and make some images overlap so the board has some 3-D depth to it.

Step 4:
Once you are satisfied with the placement of your images and phrases, glue them into place.

Step 5:
Display your vision board somewhere you’ll see it every day and feel inspired! Sit down in front of it and really study it every day for 3 to 5 minutes. Mediate on the images. Visualize yourself walking through your images and doing the activities the images represent. Allow yourself to feel as if everything on the board is real in your life today.
And there you have it – an easy, step-by-step process for creating a vision board to help you reach your goals. As you reach your goals, or your goals change, feel free to change your board – add to it, take things off – or create an entirely new one.
Good luck!
